Yankees Shut Out In Kc, 4-0

The New York Yankees, at 4-5, boast one of the worst offenses in MLB, gigantic payroll and all. The Yankees have begun having a penchant for not just losing, but losing to MLB bottom-feeders.
The Yankees, looking lifeless and listless, got shut out by the Royals, 4-0, behind the pitching of Zack Greinke. The 2008 MLB is following a disturbing pattern for the Yankees, as they fall to good pitching, even if not name-brand variety. Greinke cuffed the Yankees to 5 hits over 8 innings of shutout ball.
The Yankees have now scored only 2 runs in the past 19 innings, and only the Detroit Tigers are saving the Yankees from having the worst offense in the American League. The Yankees’ .244 team batting average is nothing to write home about, either.
The Royals scored 2 runs in both the 5th and 6th innings, but the strangest move of the night came out of the head of Yankees Manager, Joe Girardi. Girardi, looking like he has a lot to prove in his own mind, is trying to outthink the game. Girardi decided, because of the weather forecast, to not start regular starter Ian Kennedy, and went with career reliever Brian Bruney instead. Bruney made his first career start, after 157 consecutive relief appearances.
Bruney actually did all right, going 2 innings and striking out 4. The logic of a starter going 2 innings I do not get. Anyhow, the problem wound up including Kennedy, who came in, in relief, and gave up 2 runs in 3 innings, watching his ERA climb up to 13.50.
Alex Rodriguez went 2-4, to raise his average to .303, while Jason Giambi continues to slide, going 0-4 (.056), leaving 4 runners on base.
Derek Jeter is expected to return to action this weekend versus the Boston Red Sox.
