Quick Weight Loss Diets - Ten Top Tips to Get You Started

Quick weight loss diet? There's no such thing. Or is there? I've always advocated lifestyle change over dieting as a means to control your weight. If you follow a few simple rules for a couple of weeks, you'll see some changes for the better. Losing weight doesn't always mean you have to struggle with a strict diet or punishing workout regime, and in fact it's probably better for your health - and certainly better for your morale - if you do it the easy way. Life is hard enough. If you're trying to lose weight, and you're starting to struggle, here's a list of tips that might help:

1. Drink Water. Your kidneys don't work effectively when you don't drink enough water and as a result give most of their unfinished work to your liver. One of the liver's functions is to burn stored fat for energy and it can't do that if it has to do the kidneys' job too. If you drink enough water your kidneys will do their job of excreting waste products from your body, and your liver can burn stored fat.

2. Drink green tea. There are extravagant claims made for its healthful properties in connection with everything from cancer to weight loss to cholesterol control, all of which are disputed by various authorities - but it can't hurt to try it.

3. Eat more fibre. Eating fibre prevents you from overeating because it makes you feel full. Fibre also slows down the digestion, keeping your blood sugar levels high and preventing you from getting hungry.

4. Eat more protein. Protein helps you build and maintain lean muscle mass, which raises your metabolic rate. And it makes you feel full for longer.

5. Limit your salt. Too much salt makes you retain water and bloat.

6. Get active. If you haven't exercised for a while, take up walking. It's free, easy, and effective. Walk every day for a minimum of twenty minutes, and work up to forty. Walk fast enough to get out of breath, but not so fast that you can't hold a conversation if you have to.

7. Eat breakfast. Every day. Don't skip breakfast and wait until lunchtime to eat, or your metabolism will run slow and you'll end up gaining weight.

8. Lift heavier weights to burn fat faster. You burn more calories lifting heavier weights plus your metabolism will burn more fat to help your body recover.

9. Eat a Mediterranean diet. Fresh fruits and vegetables, olive oil, lean meat and fish. No junk food. Excellent health benefits.

10. Don't touch soft drinks. Ever. Sugar and carbonated water are two of the worst things you can put in your body. Stick to water, or tea and coffee. If you choose the latter two, don't add sugar and use low fat milk.

There's really only one diet, and that's the one you eat. If you choose wisely from all the foods that are available, and pay attention to the lifestyle changes that go with being healthy and fit, weight loss won't even be an issue. You'll never have to worry about it again.
