The ways for you to include exercise in your daily life are innumerable and range from taking a walk every day to joining a health club to buying sophisticated exercise equipment. Before you spend a lot of money on your exercise program, be aware that the amount of money you spend has no effect on your motivation to use it. Many people try to trick themselves into exercising by thinking that if they spend a lot of money, they’ll be sure to use whatever it is they purchased. It doesn’t work. In fact, the amount of money you spend on home exercise equipment is directly proportional to the amount of guilt you feel when you turn it into a clothes rack. If you have guilt-producing exercise equipment at home that you know in your heart you’ll never use, sell it!

Call us romantics. But do you know what we like to think? That every time a warrior in the Mahabharat shot an arrow from his bow, it was not to kill. Rather, it was a metaphorical act - to trigger off a quiverful of new ideas and let them cleave through the air thick with outdated notions. It was to allow clean, invigorating thoughts to shaft through the excess ‘fat’ and generate fresh, positive energy into the field of life. To restore, to rejuvenate, to bring back a balance, a rationality, to make new patterns of peace with a surging vibrancy into an almost-forgotten art called living.

The Bowflex is a popular home gym workout system that incorporates polymer rods for resistance that emulates the typical weights and pulleys used in weight machines. It consists of on fairly large system that includes a bench as well as leg and arm levers. It comes in a much smaller package than the typical home gym, considering that only one unit needs to be purchased as opposed to several different machines. However, the Bowflex carries a high price tag. In fact the home gym system can cost up to 2,000 dollars. Bodylastics is a similar system that also relies on resistance training, but it is available for a mere 50 dollars and won’t take up important space in your home like a larger system will.

I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in such an amazing event as the Iron Man Triathlon. I truly value living in a free and democratic country that is not only war free but beautiful beyond belief. To have 5000 volunteers for 2500 athletes is phenomenal and I commend the people of Penticton for continuing to do such an outstanding job of hosting this event.
The journey to the starting line of Iron Man Canada in Penticton started about a year ago. I had completed 14 marathons and a handful of ½ Iron Man triathlons but the Iron Man always seemed so mind boggling and apparently out of my reach.

Addiction to the high that comes with their fix.
Did you know that endorphins were discovered in the 1970s when scientists were researching drug addiction. They discovered that the brain manufactures chemicals that are even more potent than morphine or heroin, but which share the same receptors as those drugs. These natural chemicals produced by your body are the endorphins responsible for that sense of euphoria you’d get after a particularly intense workout, or a good run.
