Hard exercise suppresses the immune system, making the body more susceptible to infection. Fend off post-race flu by regularly eating apples, garlic and onions. These foods contain quercetin, a compound that studies have linked to increased immune health.
The minimum wait (30 days) that many coaches advise after running a marathon before racing one again. Even if you finished injury-free, your body needs to heal the microscopic tears in your muscles left from months of training.
Drink chocolate milk to bounce back faster. So say researchers from Indiana University, who reported in May that athletes who refuel with chocolate milk cover more kilometres and tire less easily in their next workout than athletes who chug a sports drink.

One of the hardest nutrition programs to put together is a mass-gaining plan for the formerly fat guy or the person who continually wrestles with bodyfat. The problem: whenever the individual's mass gains start to kick in, lo and behold, he starts to balloon up and add too much bodyfat. It's a never-ending struggle and exercise in frustration.
So just how do I put together a mass-gaining plan that promises mass without the unwanted blubber? It requires three carefully honed steps.

Almost all novice marathoners make the same mistake in their marathon training schedule. I made it while training for my first half-ironman triathlon and ended up with a knee injury that prevented me from running for two years. A teammate from my rowing team can’t run without pain to this day because of a mistake he made in college while training for a marathon.
The mistake is only natural. In fact, it’s part of our value system as Americans. It’s the idea that if some is good, more must be better.
Do you like ice cream? Then get a double scoop! Do you like french fries? Then supersize them! You want a large house? How about a mansion?

For the most part, training for your first Ironman is done and you’re in the taper mode.
Your attempt at Ironman immortality is possibly just a week or two away. All the demons are beginning to surface and self-doubt is leading the way. Followed closely by that inevitable question……..”What on earth have I gotten myself into?”
Fear not. It’s quite possible that pretty well every ironman hopeful has had exactly those same feelings as the big day grows ever closer.
There seems to be a couple of reasons why almost everyone deals with this same issue. For one thing, you’ve put an immense amount of time and effort into your preparation. You’ve given up a lot and most likely family and social life have been put on hold.

Shopping for that perfect present for someone who just adores horses can be a challenge. Finding the right child’s gift may include something as simple as the gift of riding lessons. Search your community tack store for local listings, call and ask for references. Meet the trainer at his or her training facility and watch a lesson. See how they respond to the horse and person they are giving the lesson to. You don’t want someone who has no interest or patience with your child and horse. They must give their undivided attention to the student at all times! You may even go to a horse show and watch the trainers students perform, go behind the scene hang out at the stall where the horses are being kept and observe.

Swimming in open water can make a pleasant change from the mind-numbing
lengths of a swimming pool. Instead of the claustrophobic feeling of being
enclosed in a swimming lane, you have a sense of freedom in the open water. Any
large expanse of water will do, whether it is the ocean, a lake or a dam. Open
water swimming is great fun if you’re training for a triathlon, iron-man
competition or if you’re just wanting to stay in shape and improve your stamina.
It is important not just to enjoy your swim, but also to swim safely! Here are a
few tips for swimming in open water:
- Don’t just take the plunge, especially if the water is cold. Your body has
to adjust to the water temperature gradually. If the water is cold… below 65

It seems like everyday I receive at least one question from someone dealing with their lack of energy. After all, not having energy stinks. Your workouts don’t produce results since your too tired to get through it or in a worst case scenario, even make it to the gym. You don’t feel like eating anything because everything you eat makes your tired and you don’t have enough energy to do anything that you want to.
1)Cut back on the caffeine.
I know this seems like something that you should include since you feel awake afterwards but caffeine actually keeps your tired. The initial alertness will wear off in about 30 minutes leaving you lower then you were before. Plus, caffeine actually fatigues your bodies natural energy producers.
